Life is what you make it. No one was born to be a villain but your actions are what determine what you’d eventually become in life. Everyone has a fair chance to live their best lives but not everyone is willing to walk the path of fulfillment.
In honesty, it doesn’t take much effort to live a good life. All you need is to open your mind and choose your path. The following tips will show you how to enjoy every moment of your life irrespective of where you are right now.
1. Find your true purpose
Only a small fraction of the world’s adult population has a clear sense of purpose. You could have a great career, lovely family, and influence but what do you really want people to remember you for? In finding your true purpose, you have to understand your personal values. If by any chance, you haven’t figured out your purpose yet, the following questions will help you:
- What are you good at?
- What do you derive pleasure doing?
- What acts have you received the most compliments for?
If you can successfully answer these questions, then you’re on course to finding your purpose in life. All you have to do is intensify efforts on improving yourself and staying true to your purpose.
2. Set your own standards and live by them
We live in a world where people thrive by comparing themselves with others and measure their success with the achievements of other people. So they lose their sense of purpose and live lives that aren’t genuinely theirs.
You have to realize that you’re in competition with nobody but yourself. When you do, you’d save yourself the stress of living by the standards set by society. True happiness is derived from living by your own standards and not through the bandwagon mentality.
3. Plan for old age
There’s nothing as fulfilling as enjoying life in your prime and having a glorious ending. A lot of people make the mistake of living for the moment alone without planning for the future – their old age. They’re robbed of happiness that’s attached to knowing that you never have to rely on someone (either financially or healthwise) as a senior. So as you plan on securing a solid financial future, you also have to prepare for healthy aging, a process that the World Health Organization describes as developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables wellbeing in older age. This life is timebound and we’re not here forever, therefore the earlier you started planning for your future, the better.
4. Build relationships with people
If you’re really keen on becoming a better person, then you have to build real relationships with people. It’s important you know that the kind of relationships you create determines the quality of your life.
But as much as you want to surround yourself with people who can add value to your life, it’s also good to think about those you can help. Adding value to people is a symbiotic process, as you create an impact in other people’s lives, you also discover your hidden abilities and this makes your life more colorful.
5. Find happiness in the right places
Every day, I see people looking for happiness in the wrong places. People often go on social media to ask for validation and cheap compliments. Don’t get me wrong, receiving compliments from people makes us feel good about ourselves but hinging our happiness to other people’s opinions about us isn’t a smart thing to do. Why? Because a lot of times, people show hatred towards other people for no reason.
True happiness resides in the heart. The key to happiness is in loving yourself, appreciating what you have & being contented, showing gratitude, and knowing that everything you own isn’t truly yours. This way, you’d be able to free your mind of any worries and let things go when things are working your way.
There’s no one way to achieving a meaningful life. We all have different purposes in life and at the end of the day, the yardsticks for measuring fulfillment aren’t the same. But these tips will serve as guidelines for choosing the best path for yourself. I hope you enjoyed reading through. Now, go live your best life.
