Warning Signs of an Unhealthy Heart

Heart-related diseases are one of the leading causes of death in India. With the increase in awareness, people want to be prepared for any health issues that they might experience. Among the many diseases, heart disease symptoms are what you need to look out for so that, they can get proper treatment at the earliest.

The main problem with heart disease is that the signs are not always clear. You will not always feel pain in the chest like you see in the movies. In most cases, people do not even feel anything in their chests, and the signs are always subtle ones. No matter your age, it is vital to watch out for some signs of heart issues so that you can have yourself checked out at the earliest:

Discomfort in the Chest

One of the common signs of heart problems is the feeling of tightness or pressure on the chest. You might feel the pressure while doing some physical activity or even when you are just relaxing. The feeling will last for longer than a minute. If the pain is very brief, and the pain is in a particular spot, it might not be your heart. But, still, you should have yourself checked by your doctor to rule out any heart disease.

Snoring and Sleeping Problem

Sleeping disorders such as insomnia or sleep apnea are directly linked to heart diseases. Disruptions in sleep where you get up in the middle of the night can put stress on the heart. If you suddenly have inconsistent sleep patterns or are snoring loudly, it can be an indication that there is something wrong with your heart. Thus, it is crucial to treat the sleep apnea so that you can lower your chances of heart diseases.

Sexual Problems

Even though sexual problems might be possible due to ageing, it can also be a sign of heart condition. In men, when the heart does not pump enough blood, it can lead to a weaker erection. In women, lower libido might indicate cardiovascular problems. Often menopause can cause changes in blood pressure and cholesterol levels leading to heart diseases. If you are having any sexual issues, you must speak to your doctor so that they can find the cause of the problem.

Excessive Sweating

While sweating is desirable when you are exercising or are physically active, but if you find yourself sweating excessively even when you are sitting may be an indication of heart problems. If you are facing additional issues such as discomfort in your neck, chest, or arm, you should not take it lightly. You’ll want to get yourself checked as soon as possible.   

Sudden Persistent Cough

A persistent cough can be a symptom of a cold or the flu, but it can also be one of the heart disease symptoms. When your heart stops pumping blood efficiently, blood will go back into the veins and through the lungs. When the pressure on the blood vessels increases, fluid will accumulate into the air spaces in the lungs. It will lead to irritation and can also cause shortness of breath. 

Swollen Legs and Feet

If you have swollen legs and feet every day at the end of the day, it might be a sign of heart failure. Similar to chest pain, swelling in the legs may be due to improper flow of blood to the heart. Since the blood flow is not as smooth as it should be, it can cause the blood to clot up and cause heart diseases. Thus swollen legs or feet is a heart disease symptom that shouldn’t be ignored.

Indigestion or Heartburn

Persistent indigestion is a sign that something might be wrong with your body. One of those reasons might be with your heart. If the medication does not offer any relief, you need to ask your doctor to evaluate you. If the problem with your heart is caught early, you will be in a better position to get the treatment for it.
