Keep it small

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because let’s face it; you need the energy to face the madness of the day – from fighting traffic to working at the office. A healthy breakfast should consist of the following nutrients – protein, carbs, vitamins and minerals. This does not mean that you should consume more portions than required. You still have to consume the required portion. During lunch, eat less food since your energy expenditure is minimal. It is recommended that one should consume foods rich in fiber during lunch if you want to lose weight during sleep. You should also eat less during dinner if you want to lose weight during sleep. Eat your dinner 3 hours before going to bed. Why? The body takes 3 hours to digest the food. While sleeping, your body spends less energy. If you over eat, excess food will be converted into fat and stored around the body. That is how you start adding weight.

Avoid smart devices

Let’s face it. Smart devices are highly useful. They enable us to keep in touch with family and friends via social media and messaging apps. That is not all. Smart devices allow you to trade financial instruments, cryptocurrencies, research, access the latest news, play games, stream movies and music among others.

It is very easy to find yourself using your smart device late into the night. Doing so will cut into your sleeping hours. As a result, you will wake up feeling sleepy. At work, you will be fatigued and sleepy thus heightening your stress levels. In the end, you will end up overeating leading to weight gain. To lose weight when sleeping on a memory foam mattress, shut down all your smart devices and sleep.

Invest in dark curtains and drapes

At night, the streets are well lit to ensure visibility. If you reside in an apartment or condo, this can be quite distracting. For others, they may be distracted by lights from passing by vehicles. Putting on a sleeping mask is not enough. Light will probably stream around the edges keeping you awake.

The best solution for you is light blocking curtains. As a result, melatonin, a hormone responsible for putting your body to sleep will not be compromised.

Avoid the hitting the gym too late

Hitting the gym too late especially two hours before you sleep will interfere with your internal clock. How? Working out utilizes a lot of nutrients. These nutrients are further depleted when you sleep which makes you feel hungry. As a result, you may end up over eating which will result in weight gain since your body is unable to consume all the energy.

If you want to work out and lose weight as you sleep, lift weights between five and seven. Cool down, take a hot/cold shower and eat the recommended amount of food. Don’t forget deep breathing exercises right after working out.

Improve sleep quality with yoga

Performing yoga poses a few hours before going to bed helps to improve your breathing and sleep quality. Apart from that, it helps to promote a calmer mind. Yoga poses you can engage in include Extended Side Angle Pose, Seated Forward Bend Pose, Upward Plank Pose, Warrior II Pose and Four Limbed Staff Pose among others.

By improving your sleep quality, you will be in a position to stop late night snacking. Apart from that, your body will burn more calories.

Avoid binge watching

According to Nielsen, the average American spends 35 hours watching TV every week and that’s just live TV. Binge watching results in snacking especially on calorie dense snack foods. As a result, your body will be unable to process the complex calories thus converting it into fat for storage. In turn, you will start to experience poor sleeping patterns. Improved sleeping pattern equals to weight loss.

Take a hot bath

Taking a hot bath or shower a few hours before you go to bed helps to promote weight loss when sleeping. For starters, the heat helps to relieve tension and relax your sore muscles. In addition, it helps in the production of oxytocin, a hormone that soothes you. Thanks to the overall effects your body experiences after a hot bath or shower, you will stand a chance of burning calories as your sleep.

Consume protein rich foods during dinner

The body takes an extended period to completely digest proteins in comparison to carbs and vitamins. As a result, the body spends more energy during this process which triggers weight loss. How? The body will tap into stored energy sources like the stored fat resulting in weight loss. According to research, consuming 30 grams of protein resulted in a higher metabolic rate since protein is more thermogenic.

Avoid night time snacking

Frequent trips between your bedroom and the kitchen have negative consequences. Nibbling on the left over’s in your refrigerator contributes to weight gain. For starters, you are unable to control your portions. Secondly, you will probably be consuming high caloric foods which in turn contribute to weight gain. To ensure that your body burns calories while you sleep, avoid night time snacking.
